I’m a writer and humanitarian living in Switzerland. I’m short, quirky and a little mad – but for some reason, people put up with me anyway. The daughter of African immigrants of Indo-Pakistani origins raised in Canada now living in Switzerland, my view of the world is definitely unique, if not a little eclectic.
Over the past 20 years, I have worked in humanitarian aid & public health, with various agency like Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), the WHO Foundation and the Medicines Patent Pool. My work has taken me around the world: from postings in Liberia, Burundi, Guinea, Sudan, Congo, Uganda, and Kenya, to providing support to field teams in South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Djibouti, and Lebanon – I have experienced some of the best, and the worst, humankind has to offer. Far from leaving me jaded or confused, this work has inspired me: in the stories I write, I try to include this insight into each of my characters, providing the reader an understanding of the world through my unique and particular lens.
My goal is a simple one, is to help amplify the voices of those who are not heard, sharing their stories, in the only way I know how: words, and a very loud voice.
