This book has been out for years … and somehow I missed it. It was offered to me as a gift a few weeks ago, and off I went. Now I normally don’t like being given books as gifts – I have often found that people often try to impose their own tastes on you when they offer you a book. This was not the case.
When I first started the book, I had no idea what the heck was going on, and I found it to be… uninteresting. But, I pushed forward, first because I hate giving up on a book, and second, again because it was gift. And let me just say that I am so glad I did. Before you start, be ready – just know that the end is not an ending. Rothfuss has set us up for at least one more missive of Kvothe’s adventures, if not more. I was sorely disappointed, but saw it coming. There was too much to say, to see, for it to fit into one book (all 662 pages of it!!) Some fantasy novels, such as the ones written by GGK, are a song, a poem. You can hear the music on the page. This story is different. You get lost in the pages. You become the Chronicler, listening to Kvothe’s story. You are with him at the University as he makes friends, has his heart broken, and becomes a hero – and then some. You get lost in it. For those who love the fantasy world – you can’t help but get lost in this story. I for one, cannot wait to start reading part 2
